Samson Dubina is a savvy player and an exceptionally quick learner. At his first tournament, he complied a record of 3-4 and emerged with a USATT rating of 878. In three years he was over 2000, losing only to Mark Hazinski at the AAU Junior Olympics in 1999. Since then it's been steady progress for the tall and lanky young man from Ohio. Wins at the Western Open in Berkeley CA propelled him past 2500 for the first time. Samson is in fulltime training with the Canadians in Ottawa. One of the best-mannered and well-adjusted young men you could ever hope to meet, we caught up with Samson just after the Quaker City Open.

Balls of FuryThe Official Website for the movie Balls of Fury is up with a high-res version of the movie trailer.  The movie is dated to come out on September 14, 2007.  Although Balls of Fury looks to be a sports spoof comedy movie, like 2004's Dodgeball, the movie includes a cast of very well known actors.  Christopher Walken headlines the cast along side comedian George Lopez and Aisha Tyler.  Another notable actor who is appearing in the movie is active West coast table tennis and 2000+ rated player Adam Bobrow.

TT Classroom: Connecting
Coaching Corner - Coaching Corner

Original Article

The concept of connecting, to my understanding, is the relation between a shot and the next one. They could be the same type of shots or they could be entirely different.

So the connections are wide open in scopes, ranging from paces and rhythms to power and speed. For example, I hit a power shot and my opponent makes a fast return. If I try to hit the next shot with even more power, such two shots connect poorly and the combination loses productivity. I would rather play a medium power shot or a spinning one. Then the shots will connect nicely and produce good results.

Some people would talk about transitions. Transitions and connections do have points in common but connecting covers a much wider scope. Transition deals with two different types of shots, which are a lot more difficult. Namely, players always have to switch from offense to defense, or vice versa.

XBOX 360
Original Article | This is the heavily modded Xbox 360 that Rockstar is giving away at their Penny Arcade Expo Table Tennis tournament. The pictures really don't do it justice. The thing, made by Llama, features a clear side panel with an embedded ping pong ball and attached paddle. The case is all slick and black and white. The controller is just as cool. It's black and white with a clear vaneer. I love this thing
